SELLERSBUG, Ind. — Led by a 6-under performance from Ty Kretz, the South Dakota State men’s golf team is in third place after the first day of the Summit League Championships at Covered Bridge Golf Club.
The Jackrabbits tallied a 277 (-11) team score on the first round, the best single round for SDSU at the Summit League Championships in program history. Reigning champion Kansas City is in first at 15-under and Oral Roberts is in second place at -13.
Kretz fired a season-best 66 (-6) for the first 18 holes, the best single-round score by a Jackrabbit at the Summit League Championships in program history. The junior leads the field by one shot over a trio of players at 6-under. Kretz went 2-under on the front nine Sunday, then tallied five birdies on the back nine to finish the day -6. He nearly went bogey-free, going over par on only hole 16.
Tyler Seeling is in a six-way tie for seventh place. He carded a 69 (-3) Sunday with eight birdies, the most of all players. Luke Honner and Blake Schaper are two shots behind Seeling in a tie for 16th place (71, -1). Bryson Mercier rounds out the lineup in a tie for 41st place (76, +4).
The second round will tee off at 7 a.m. CDT Monday. SDSU will go off with Oral Roberts and Kansas City in the first group.
