Anthony Schneider, Newt Johnson repeat on Summit League All-Academic Baseball Team

ELMHURST, Ill. – Repeat selections Anthony Schneider and Newt Johnson of South Dakota State were honored as members of the Summit League All-Academic Baseball Team.

A senior from Altoona, Iowa, Schneider was named to the nine-player honor squad for the third consecutive year after compiling a 3.89 grade-point average while majoring in human biology. Schneider, who split his playing time between designated hitter and outfield, was a first-team all-Summit League selection in 2018 after leading the team with eight home runs and a .432 on-base percentage, and adding a .295 batting average and 37 runs batted in.

Johnson, a senior third baseman from Rapid City, earned his second consecutive selection to the academic squad with a 3.62 GPA as an exercise science major. He ranked among the league leaders in walks (37), home runs (7), RBIs (45) and on-base percentage (.431) en route to earning second-team all-league honors for the second year in a row.

Selections to the Summit League All-Academic Baseball Team are based on a vote by member institutions’ faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors. To be eligible, a student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30, completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in at least 50 percent of their team’s competitions for position players and 20 percent for pitchers.
