Arlington, ELB, Lake Preston boys post nonconference wins

CHESTER – Arlington topped Chester Area 43-29 in a nonconference boys’ basketball game Friday night.

The Cardinals led 13-9 after a quarter, 24-15 at halftime and 36-27 through three.

Trevor Larsen scored a game-high 20 points and Trey Ramstad added 13 to go with a pair of assists. Casey Stegeman and Chris Wallace both grabbed five rebounds, while Nick Kersting dished out two dimes.

For the Flyers (6-12), Stratton Eppard had six points and Alex Tammen five to go with five assists. Bayden Schneider had eight boards.

Arlington (15-2) takes on the host Monarchs (14-4) in the Warner Classic today.

 Elkton-Lake Benton 67, Howard 54

ELKTON – Matthew Nibbe (22) and Grant DeRuyter (18) combined for 40 points to lead the Elks past the Tigers.

Billy Sutefen scored 14 points.

DeRuyter also dished out six assists, while Marcus Harming and Aiden Erickson added four apiece. Nibbe came up with three steals.

ELB was ahead 13-9 after a quarter, 35-20 at halftime and 50-32 through three.

For Howard (6-13), Jace Sifore finished with 17 points and Jacob Brooks 16.

Elkton-Lake Benton (10-7) is host to Dell Rapids St. Mary today.

LAKE PRESTON – The Divers outscored the Chiefs in every quarter during the nonconference win.

Lake Preston led 21-13 after a quarter, 43-23 at halftime and 58-31 at the end of three.

Tate Larsen dropped in a game-high 22 points.

Paydon Casper had 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Jasper Denison posted a double-double of 15 points and 11 boards.

Rhett McMasters added seven points and Carter Malone six to go with six rebounds. Byron Bumann dished out five assists.

The Divers shot 44 percent (26-of-59) while limiting the Chiefs to 26.3 percent (15-of-57).

Iroquois’ Keistan Dubro had 11 points and Brandon Decker and Adam Keating added nine apiece. Keating corralled six boards.

Both teams conclude the regular season Friday, with Lake Preston (6-13) taking on Oldham-Ramona/Rutland in Ramona and Iroquois (4-15) heading to Sunshine Bible Academy.

CASTLEWOOD – Brandon Benike had a big game to lead the Warriors over the Redhawks in a Dakota Valley Conference clash.

Benike, a senior, scored 29 points on 13-of-19 shooting and grabbed a single-game school-record 20 rebounds.

Castlewood was up 17-7 after a quarter, 35-24 at halftime and 52-28 at the end of three.

Estelline/Hendricks’ Riley Benning and Marcis Hausman both finished with nine points.

The Warriors finished the season 8-10 (2-5).

Estelline/Hendricks (3-14, 0-8) takes on Oldham-Ramona/Rutland today in Rutland.

TORONTO – The Falcons topped the Dolphins in a nonconference matchup.

Florence/Henry led 22-14 after a quarter, 34-22 at halftime and 49-36 through three.

Morgan Roe canned five 3-pointers while scoring a game-high 23 points for the Falcons (13-6).

Mykcel Sprung, a 6-foot-3 senior, added 22 points and Haley Hlavacek had 12.

Deubrook’s Shaylee DeBeer scored 11 of her team-high 17 points in the fourth quarter before fouling out. She added seven rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.

Mattie Nepodal hit three 3s and scored 11 points. Andrea Vandermeer had eight points and 10 rebounds. Claire Olsen grabbed 14 boards.

Deubrook Area (15-3) wraps up the regular season at De Smet (17-1) today, with the winner claiming the Dakota Valley Conference title outright. The Dolphins are 7-0 in league play and the Lady Bulldogs are 8-0.

CASTLEWOOD – The Warriors outscored the Hawks 32-21 in the second half for the 13-point Dakota Valley Conference win.

The Hawks led 5-4 after a quarter, but Castlewood was ahead 14-12 at halftime. The home team extended the lead to 29-21 through three.

Alayna Benike totaled 21 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and three assists. Cala Hunter added 12 points.

Colman-Egan’s Elizabeth Moore posted a double-double of 11 points and 13 boards. Braiden Westley added 10 markers.

Colman-Egan wrapped up the regular season with a 9-10 (5-4) mark. The Region 4B Tournament gets underway Monday.

Castlewood (9-7, 4-2) plays at Estelline/Hendricks today.

Ella Griffin hit a trio of 3s for nine points. Addison Gilbert and Clare Klein both added a pair of 3-balls while totaling eight points apiece.

ELB’s Jesse Busselman finished with 13 points.

Hannah Krog, who grabbed six rebounds, and Julia Drietz added seven points apiece.

Elkton-Lake Benton finished the regular season with a 1-18 (1-7) record. The Region 4B Tournament begins Monday.
