BROOKINGS – The Bullets went 1-3 over the weekend at the Buffalo Wild Wings 16U Tournament at Bob Shelden Field.

Brookings dropped both games on Saturday, 12-6 to Dell Rapids and 6-5 to Garretson, before posting a 1-1 mark on Sunday. The Bullets downed Watertown 5-4 before falling to Harrisburg, 11-9.

Garretson and Harrisburg both finished 3-1; Dell Rapids went 2-2 while Watertown ended up 1-3.

The Bullets play host to Renner on Wednesday in a doubleheader that starts at noon at Bob Shelden Field.

Saturday’s Games

• Dell Rapids 12, Brookings 6

Dell Rapids scored in every inning but one to double up the Bullets in the first game of the tournament.

The home team on the scoreboard scored three runs in the first, third and fifth innings while adding a single run in the fourth and two in the sixth.

Trailing 3-0, Brookings tied the game with a three-run second after taking advantage of four straight base on balls and Matt Girard’s fielder’s choice.

The Bullets tacked on two more runs in the fifth when Kolby Weinberg came through with a two-out, two-RBI double.

Brookings added another run in the seventh after Wes Koenig and Mason Bebensee opened the inning with back-to-back singles. Aidan Stewart’s ground out to second moved both runners up before Koenig scored on Weiberg’s flyball to left field for the final score.

• Garretson 6, Brookings 5

Garretson put together a two-out rally in the top of the seventh to pull out the win.

The Bullets led 2-0 through three before the visitors tied the game with two runs in the top of the fourth.

Brookings added three runs in the fifth for a 5-2 advantage, but Garretson scored two in the sixth before adding two in the seventh for the come-from-behind win.

Bebensee had the big hit in the third, plating Girard and Tanner Huber with a single.

In the fifth, Wes Koenig singled with one out before Bebensee drew a base on balls. Jaysen Williams walked with two outs before Garretson committed a fielding error on a ball that Jeffrey Fuks put into play, which allowed the Bullets to take the lead through five innings.

Sunday’s Games

• Brookings 5, Watertown 4

The Bullets took the early lead with four runs in the bottom of the first before adding an insurance run in the sixth, which turned out to be the game-winning run when Watertown scored in the seventh.

With one out in the first, Bebensee reached on an error before Carter Merritt and Koenig came up with back-to-back singles. Weinberg followed with a triple and then, Aidan Stewart had a single as Brookings went up 4-0.

Watertown scored one run in the second and two in the third to pull within 4-3 before Fuks hit a double with one out in the sixth. With two outs, Girard singled to plate Fuks for a 5-3 edge.

The visitors scored a run in the seventh, but left a runner stranded as the Bullets held on for the win.

• Harrisburg 11, Brookings 9

Harrisburg scored two runs in both the first and second innings before the Bullets put one up on the board in the third after Caden McKeown singled with one out and Huber and Merritt came through with back-to-back two-out singles to make it 4-1.

Harrisburg tacked on a run in the fourth and two in the fifth for a 7-1 advantage, but Brookings sent 13 batters to the dish in the sixth to plate eight runs for a 9-7 lead.

After Koenig and Weinberg walked to open the sixth, Stewart plated both with a double. Williams’ single scored Stewart before McKeown hit a one-out single.

Back-to-back singles by Girard and Huber plated Williams and McKeown, and then, Merritt’s two-RBI double scored Girard and Huber.

Both Koeing and Weinberg drew walks to load the bases and Stewart earned another RBI as Brookings went up by two runs.

But Harrisburg took advantage of five walks and a Brookings error to score four runs in the bottom of the frame for the 11-9 lead and the Bullets went down in order in the seventh.
