Colman A’s beat Dell Rapids PBR 7-2

COLMAN – Tim Kuphal tossed a five-hitter as the Colman A’s defeated Dell Rapids PBR 7-2 in a Cornbelt League amateur baseball game Thursday night.

Kuphal struck out 12 batters while allowing two earned runs.

Dell Rapids struck first with a run in the opening inning.

Colman’s Deon Engtringer, Paul Clark, Kuphal and Mike Preheim drew consecutive walks in the third to get the home team on the board.

In the fifth, Clark singled and Preheim drew a one-out base on balls. Ian Barker came through with a two-run double with two away to make it 3-1.

Dell Rapids scored its other run in the top of the seventh, cutting the deficit to 3-2.

However, the A’s pulled away with four runs in the bottom of the inning.

Kuphal, Preheim and Adam Fritz opened the frame with walks to load the bases. Barker also drew a free pass to force in Kuphal.

Aaron Entringer walked with one away, driving in Preheim. Jake Otkin followed with an RBI single and Billy Stitz added a bases-loaded walk of his own to provide for the final margin.

Colman totaled seven hits and 13 walks.

Preheim finished 2-for-3. Barker totaled three RBIs.

The A’s play host to Hartford/Humboldt on Tuesday and then travel to Dell Rapids to take on the Mudcats on Thursday.
