Cossacks 6th, Bobcats 9th at Watertown Invitational

WATERTOWN – Sioux Valley took sixth and Brookings finished ninth in the Watertown Boys’ Golf Invitational on Tuesday at Cattail Crossing.

Harrisburg took the team title with a 311 total and the host Arrows were second at 314. Aberdeen Central (329), Watertown Gold (335) and Huron (336) rounded out the top five.

The Cossacks carded a 338 and the Bobcats shot 349.

Aberdeen Roncalli’s Lucas Schaefbauer fired an even-par 72 to take medalist honors. He made six birdies, four bogeys and a double-bogey.

Aberdeen Central’s Ethan Vikander and Watertown Gold’s Jake Olson both shot 73 to place second and third, respectively. Harrisburg’s Gavin Hatch (75) took fourth and Watertown’s Sam Mahowald (76) was fifth.

Watertown Gold’s Tucker Wookey (76) finished sixth.

Huron’s Landon Roberts, Mitchell’s Max Dailey and Harrisburg’s Trevor Berreth each carded 77s to take seventh through ninth, respectively. Watertown’s Jake Whitlock (78) placed 10th.

Westin Trenhaile and Noah Puetz both shot 83 to pace Sioux Valley. Trenhaile took 19th and Puetz was 21st. Logan Steffensen and Nate Buisker added 86s to complete the team score as they were 29th and 30th, respectively.

Also for the Cossacks, Parker Rinehart (94) took 52nd and Trent Hiltunen (95) 53rd.

Drew Cole led Brookings with an 83, putting him in 18th.

Ryan Treiber (88) finished 37th, Jordan Svobodny (89) 38th and Alec Rice (89) 41st to round out the team tally.

Also for the Bobcats, Jesse Roberts (93) ended up 47th.

Sioux Valley heads to the Sisseton Invitational on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Valley View Country Club.

Brookings competes in the Eastern South Dakota Conference Boys’ Golf Tournament on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Broadland Creek in Huron.
