Dolphins edge Elks 14-6; Hawks blank Redhawks; Badgers beat Raiders

ELKTON – Deubrook Area scored a pair of long touchdowns in the second half to defeat Elkton-Lake Benton 14-6 during Dakota Valley Conference football action Friday night.

Trace Vierhuf got free for a 68-yard run to the end zone with 1 minute remaining in the third quarter.

Clayton Koppatschek had a 74-yard scoring rush with 4:14 to go in the fourth.

Evan Kloevstad made a pair of PAT kicks.

Koppatschek finished with 109 yards on 13 carries and Vierhuf had 96 yards on 10 attempts.

The Elks found the scoreboard first as Aiden Erickson had a 5-yard TD run at the 1:19 mark of the second period.

Grant DeRuyter had 32 rushing yards and added 29 yards on two receptions. Erickson had five catches covering 24 yards.

Taryn Krog made 15 tackles to pace the ELB defense.

Deubrook Area (1-3) takes on Oldham-Ramona/Rutland in Rutland and Elkton-Lake Benton (2-2) plays host to Estelline/Hendricks next week.

ESTELLINE – The Hawks posted a 50-point DVC win over the Redhawks.

Nate Tolley threw for three touchdowns and also had a 12-yard scoring run.

Chase Hemmer had TD catches of 17 and 35 yards. Eli Bowen found the end zone on an 8-yard reception and a 1-yard rush.

Austin Gullickson added a 69-yard scoring scamper and Ryker Hawkins had a 37-yarder.

The Redhawks’ Marcis Hausman had 15 tackles, Jake Goodfellow 10 and Hunter Miller six to go with a forced fumble.

Colman-Egan (4-0) plays host to De Smet and Estelline/Hendricks (0-5) travels to Elkton-Lake Benton on Friday.

 Arlington/Lake Preston 44, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 13

RUTLAND – Luis Esquivel caught 10 passes for 52 yards and a touchdown while running for 78 yards on six carries but it wasn’t enough as the undefeated Badgers cruised to a 44-13 Dakota Valley Conference win over the Raiders on Friday night in Rutland.

Arlington/Lake Preston improves to 5-0 on the season and in the DVC while ORR falls to 1-4 overall and in conference play.

The Raiders have another home game in Rutland on Friday versus Deubrook Area as the Badgers have an extra week off before taking on Castlewood in Arlington on Sept. 28.

 Sioux Falls Christian 47, Sioux Valley 6

SIOUX FALLS – The Chargers piled up 418 yards of offense, including 378 on the ground, in the victory over the Cossacks.

Parker Nelson ran 26 times for 164 yards and two touchdowns.

He opened the scoring with a 4-yard run late in the first quarter and Jaxon Hogan ran in the two-point conversion.

Sioux Valley’s Lane VanderWal caught a 30-yard TD toss from Parker Puetz in the second to pull Sioux Valley within 8-6.

However, it was all Sioux Falls Christian after that.

Nelson had a 4-yard scoring run; Hogan caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Dawson Mulder and Clay Vinson ran in the two-pointer; and Elijah Bird booted a 21-yard field goal as time expired to make it 25-6 at halftime.

Mulder hooked up with Zach Witte from 13 yards out in the third and Bird kicked the PAT to put the Chargers ahead 32-6.

Jett Olszewski and Gavin Mulder had short TD runs in the fourth. Mitchell Goodbary added a two-point conversion to provide for the final margin.

Vinson ended up with 72 yards on six rushes. Dawson Mulder was 3-of-6 for 40 yards.

Olszewski and Witte both made five tackles.

The Cossacks finished with 133 yards, including 77 on the ground.

Dalton Hanson ran for 42 yards and Jaxton Schiller added 30.

Puetz ended up 5-of-8 for 56 yards. VanderWal picked up 42 yards on two catches.

Brayden Havrevold paced the defense with 15 tackles and VanderWal tallied 10.

Sioux Valley (1-3) plays host to Lennox for Homecoming on Friday at 7 p.m. Sioux Falls Christian (3-1) heads to Elk Point-Jefferson.

 Mt. Vernon/Plankinton 54, Flandreau 7

FLANDREAU – The Titans moved to 5-0 on the season with the win over the Fliers.

MVP travels to Winner and Flandreau (0-4) takes on Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan in Bridgewater next week.
