ELB splits with Castlewood

CASTLEWOOD – Elkton-Lake Benton and Castlewood split a Dakota Valley Conference basketball doubleheader Monday, with the Elks winning the boys’ game 60-55 and the Warriors take the girls’ contest 70-22.

Boys

  •  Elkton-Lake Benton 60, Castlewood 55

The Elks used a balanced scoring attack to take down the Warriors.

Devin Sopko finished with 14 points and six rebounds.

Matthew Nibbe tallied a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Grant DeRuyter also dropped in 10 points, while Dylan Kuehl added nine and Marcus Harming six.

Castlewood got 14 points from Kaden Eng. Brandon Benike had a double-double of 12 points and 10 boards and Garret Kerkvliet also had with 12 points.

On Friday, ELB (2-0, 2-0) plays at Arlington and Castlewood (1-1, 0-1) is host to Colman-Egan.

Girls

  •  Castlewood 70, Elkton-Lake Benton 22

CASTLEWOOD – Alayna Benike dropped in 30 points on 12-of-19 shooting while adding 10 rebounds and 10 steals to complete the triple-double as the Warriors cruised to the victory.

Maddie Horn had 12 points and Mackenzie Everson 10.

The Lady Elks’ Julia Drietz finished with eight points, while Jesse Busselman and Brooklyn Nielsen both added five.

ELB (0-2, 0-2) heads to Arlington on Thursday. Castlewood (2-0, 1-0) takes on Garretson in the Entringer Classic on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Colman.
