Ellie Abraham prevails in home triangular

BROOKINGS – Bobcat junior Ellie Abraham closed the regular season by placing first in the girls’ 5K in 19 minutes, 17.22 seconds during a triangular against Yankton and Harrisburg on Thursday evening at Edgebrook.

Abraham has won all six in-state meets in which she’s competed this season:

  •  John Collignon Invitational, Madison C.C. – Aug. 24 — 15:34.45 (4K)
  •  Augustana Twilight, Yankton Trail Park, Sioux Falls – Aug. 31 — 18:19.68
  •  Nike Heartland Preview, Yankton Trail Park, Sioux Falls – Sept. 8 — 18:32.88
  •  Huron Invitational, Broadland Creek – Sept. 15 — 18:58.94
  •  Eastern South Dakota Conference Meet, Fox Run, Yankton – Oct. 6 — 18:45.57

Abraham did not compete in the Watertown Invitational on Sept. 27 and instead traveled to Falcon Heights, Minn., where she finished 38th out of 455 runners in the Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 29 at Les Bolstad Golf Course with a 19:16.1 clocking.

The Gazelles won the triangular with 31 team points. Brookings (37) was second and Harrisburg (55) third.

Yankton’s Thea Chance (19:49.06) was runner-up.

The Bobcats’ Kayla Shoup (20:03.75)  placed third, Jai Reienke (20:17.12) fourth, Maddix Archer (21:52.41) 12th and Brooke Wika (22:15.31) 18th.

On the boys’ side, the Tigers (16) placed first, the Bucks (44) second and the Bobcats (73) third. Harrisburg swept the top four spots individually, led by medalist Josh Krull (17:22.79).

Brookings’ Isaac Conrad (19:00.42) finished 11th, Sam Conrad (19:12.61) 12th, Nick Diersen (19:24.91) 13th, Daniel Messerli (19:45.6) 18th and Ian Smith (20:36.17) 19th.

The Class AA State Meet is Saturday, Oct. 20, at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls. The boys’ race is at 1 p.m. and the girls’ is at 2:30 p.m.
