SDSU University seniors Tayler Herding, Brooke Ruhd Hockett, Lilit Karapetyan and Kristina Wagner are displaying their senior exhibit  through Nov. 30 at Grove Hall’s Ritz Gallery on campus. The exhibit is free and open to the public. The Ritz Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A public reception will be held from 5-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20.

The exhibit, titled “New Seasons,” includes graphic design work including brand, logo, business card and pattern designs, a series of ink and paint portraits, paintings, ceramics works, digital animations, prints, book and newsletter designs, hand-drawn illustrations, photographs and mixed media works.

Former South Dakota National Guard member Chris Mercado, who helped create Objective Zero, an app that allows veterans to chat with someone via message, video or phone call at the push of a button, will speak at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, at the Alumni Association’s Woster Celebration Hall.

The community is invited to Volga Movie Night for a free screening of “The Incredibles,” rated PG and hosted by the Sioux Valley Parent-Teacher Organization, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, at the Sioux Valley gymnasium.

Attendees are invited to come in pajamas and bring a blanket or chair. Popcorn and juice will be provided. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Wednesday, Nov. 21

1 Million Cups, a way for creators, artists, entrepreneurs and business owners to gather and share ideas on upcoming projects or new products, will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at the Children’s Museum of South Dakota. Free coffee will be served.

First Bank & Trust invites the community to stop by its East Bank for Pumpkin Pie Day, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at 2220 Sixth St. Free pumpkin pie and coffee will be served.

Bingo at the Brookings VFW, 520 Main Ave., is from 6:30-10 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21. Cards are handed out at 6:30, and bingo starts at 7. Lunch will be available. For more information, call 692-6771.

Thursday, Nov. 22

The 11th annual Turkey Day 5K, hosted by Brookings Swim Club, starts at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, in the McCrory Gardens parking lot and runs through the SDSU campus. Race day registration is from 7:45-8:45 a.m. at the McCrory Gardens Visitor Center at 631 22nd Ave. Parking is available on the west side of Walmart along 22nd Avenue.

The entry fee is $30 for individuals and $60 for families if done online by Nov. 20. The race day entry fee is $35 per individual and $70 for families. Walkers are welcome.

Brookings United Church of Christ will host a free Thanksgiving dinner for anyone looking for food and fellowship. Serving is from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, at 828 Eighth St. S. All are welcome, and no reservations are needed. Call 697-2882 for more information.

Intervarsity Christian Fellowship will host a free Thanksgiving Day meal at noon Thursday, Nov. 22, at GracePoint Wesleyan Church, 1420 Orchard Drive. Call 692-6671 if you’re in Brookings and would like a ride or a meal delivered. Deliveries will begin at 11 a.m. Rides for SDSU students will be available at the Student Union at 11:30 a.m.

Friday, Nov. 23

Saturday, Nov. 24

Brookings American Legion Post No. 74 will hold a pancake, sausage and eggs breakfast from 8:30-11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at the post home, 1229 Western Ave. Proceeds will be used to support the Boys State, Youth Trooper Academy, and American Legion Baseball programs.

Viewing of the 32nd annual Festival of Trees at the Brookings Arts Council, 524 Fourth St., will begin Saturday, Nov. 24, and continue through Saturday, Dec. 22. Normal council hours are 2-5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Thursdays (Nov. 29, Dec. 6, 13, 20) have extended hours until 7 p.m. Sundays (Nov. 25, Dec. 2, 9) will have special hours of 1 to 4 p.m.

Monday, Nov. 26

Tuesday, Nov. 27

The South Dakota Art Museum Guild will meet Tuesday, November 27, at the Museum for a presentation and demonstration by caricature artist Chuck Bennis.  The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served at 9:30 a.m., followed by the program and then a short meeting. The guild has reserved a BATA bus to provide attendees with transportation to and from the Museum. The bus will pick up attendees at the north end of the Brookings Mall parking lot at 9:15 a.m. and leave the Museum at 11:15 a.m. for the return trip.
