Health system names new board members

BROOKINGS Brookings Health System recently appointed two new directors, Jennifer Chandler, RN, and Lisa Schaefer, LNHA.

Chandler was recently promoted to serve as the new supply chain and outreach clinical director. In this dual role, Chandler is responsible for establishing an effective, integrated supply chain process and ensuring an adequate level of inventory and supply for the health system. She also provides leadership for the outreach and rural health clinics and oversees their day-to-day functions.

Chandler started at Brookings Health in 2001 as a housekeeper and served as an ER receptionist while attending South Dakota State University for nursing. Upon graduation, she worked as a nurse on Brookings Hospital’s medical/surgical floor before transferring to the ER. She has worked with Brookings Health System’s Outreach Clinic since 2013 and became the outreach clinic and rural health coordinator in 2017. 

Schaefer was recently hired as the new business office and registration director. In this role Schaefer manages business office functions for all health system business units to ensure timely, legally compliant and accurate billing. She is also responsible for collections of account receivables and maximizing related cash flow. Schaefer oversees reception, appointment scheduling and patient registration staff as well as claims specialists and financial counselors. 

Schaefer comes to Brookings Health with 15 years of experience in the health care industry. She served most recently as the administrator/CEO for Bethel Lutheran Community in Madison. She holds a master’s degree in business and health services administration from the University of South Dakota and a bachelor’s in journalism and mass communications from South Dakota State University.
