BROOKINGS – A home was burglarized and drugs stolen, according to Brookings Police.
The theft was reported at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday and occurred in the 500 block of 12th Street South, Lt. Marci Gebers said.
“This residence was recently purchased and the new owners were in the process of remodeling it. During the remodel, they had located several items of drug paraphernalia and illegal drugs that they had placed into like a Rubbermaid container. And that’s actually what ended up being stolen,” Gebers said.
The residence had been secured and the property owner had last been at the property Tuesday afternoon, so the burglary occurred between then and when it was reported on Wednesday, she said.
“There was forced entry through the front door of the residence, causing damage to the door,” Gebers said, adding the damage estimate to the door and frame was approximately $150.
“We do have a possible suspect identified, but the investigation is ongoing,” Gebers said.
