Jackrabbit cross country teams compete in two meets

VERONA, Wis. – The South Dakota State men took 22nd and the women finished 24th versus nationally-ranked competition at the Pre-National Invitational on Saturday.

Men

Northern Arizona topped the 35-team field with 41 points and Stanford (84) was second.

The Jackrabbits ended up 22nd with 614 points.

The Cardinal’s Grant Fisher finished the 8K Thomas Zimmer Championships Course in a time of 23 minutes, 48.8 seconds to earn medalist honors.

The Lumberjacks put five runners in the top 15, led by Tyler Day (23:48.8) and Matthew Baxter (23:49.4), who placed second and third respectively. Peter Lomong (23:57.2) was seventh, Geordie Breamish (24:10.9) 14th and Luis Crijalva (24:12.4) 15th.

Chase Cayo paced the Jackrabbits, finishing 68th out of 242 runners with a 24:48.5 clocking.

Kyle Burdick crossed in 90th in 24:58. Micah Mather (25:28.1) finished 145th, Gabe Peters (25:33.3) 149th and Lukas Nelson (25:45.6) 166th to round out the team tally.

Also for SDSU, Joseph Minor-Williams (25:51.5) ended up 183rd and Tom Breuckman (25:51.6) 184th.

Women

New Mexico finished first out of 36 teams with 67 points, while Michigan (120) ended up second.

SDSU was 24th with 650 points.

The Lobos’ Weini Kelati (19:33.3) and Ednah Kurgat (19:45.5) finished 1-2, respectively, in the 239-runner 6K field. Charlotte Prouse (20:18.4) placed ninth, Adva Cohen (20:35.5) 14th and Hannah Nuttall (21:05.9) 41st.

The Jackrabbits’ Rachel King clocked a time of 20:55.9 to take 30th.

Anna Donnay (22:05.8) was 129th, Mackenzie Schell (22:20.4) 154th, Ellie Friesen (22:20.7) 156th and Emily Berzonsky (22:40.7) 181st to complete the team score.

Also for SDSU, Jamie Schweiss (22:51.2) finished 193rd and Kendra Dykstra (23:25.6) 214th.

RON PYNN CLASSIC

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – SDSU also sent runners to the Ron Pynn Classic.

Men

North Dakota State (39) topped Minnesota-Duluth (56) for the team title. The Jackrabbits (71) were fourth.

The Bulldogs’ Luke Lahr (25:03.9) and Isaac Overmyer (25:05.2) placed first and second, respectively, in the 71-runner 8K field.

SDSU’s Evan Fick (25:55.1) finished 10th, Ben Olson (25:56) 11th, Alexander Auch (25:59) 12th, Michael Schwinghamer (26:27.6) 20th and Chandler Klawitter (26:35.8) 23rd. Also for the Jackrabbits, Sam Ivanecky (26:53.4) took 29th.

Women

North Dakota State (23) was first and North Dakota (40) seconds in the team standings. The Jackrabbits (132) finished fifth.

The Bison’ Kelby Anderson (17:20), Jen Dufner (17:59.3) and Annika Rotvold (18:03) placed first through third, respectively, in the 75-runner 5K.

SDSU’s Anna Fasen (18:42.4) took ninth, Emma Nelson (19:44.7) 32nd, Tori Glazier (19:59.2) 37th, Bailey Dergan (20:17) 40th and Elise Emmick (20:46) 48th.

The Summit League Championships are Oct. 27 in Omaha, Neb.
