Jackrabbit men drop matches to Drury, Southwest Baptist

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Carlos Martinez improved to 6-5 on the season, while the South Dakota State men’s tennis team fell to Drury, 7-2 Sunday afternoon.

“The men fought so hard from the first ball to the last ball,” Ffion Davies said. “We came out with the grit and determination to fight. We were unlucky in regards to the results but they should be proud with the way they fought, the energy they brought, and their attitudes. They just need to continue this into future matches.”

Martinez was once again victorious at No. 6 with a 6-7, 6-4, 10-4 win.

Marco Paulo Castro captured the second point for State with a 6-2, 6-3 decision at No. 3.

Alexander Reinke fell short at No. 2 in a 7-6, 6-2 loss.

Elliot Ward fought a battle at No. 4, dropping a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 match.

BOLIVAR, Mo. – The South Dakota State men’s tennis team fell to Southwest Baptist, 8-1 Saturday afternoon.

SDSU falls to 0-10 on the season, while SBU improves to 10-1.

“The men did a pretty good job,” Ffion Davies said. “We played very tough against SBU who had nationally ranked players. The conditions were a little tricky for both teams. Tomorrow we have to come out again fighting and believing in ourselves.”

Freshman Carlos Martinez won the lone point for State with a 6-1, 6-2 decision at No. 6. The Albacete, Spain native improves to 5-5 on the season.

Marco Paulo Castro dropped a close 6-4, 6-4 match at No. 3.
