BROOKINGS – The South Dakota State track and field teams took advantage of their final home competition before hosting the league championships during the SDSU Last Chance on Friday at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
A total of 21 Jackrabbits (seven men, 14 women) combined for 24 personal-best marks, including a school record, and six other all-time top-10 marks.
Trent Francom broke his own school record in the pole vault, clearing 17 feet. His previous indoor best was 16-10 3/4. The sophomore from Huron also has the outdoor record – 17 feet, accomplished twice.
The Jackrabbits won 12 other events – eight on the men’s side and four on the women’s.
Caleb Bray (49.19 seconds) and Mitchel Acker (49.67) finished 1-2 in the men’s 400-meter dash.
Riley Bauer (1:20.57) won the 600, Derek Boekelheide (1:53.09) the 800, Ben Olson (4:21.51) the mile and Lucas Pierson (8:57.16) the 3,000.
SDSU also swept the jumps.
Bryant Courter was first in the long jump with a leap of 23 feet. He did not compete in the triple jump.
Sage Hagen (45-2 1/4) won the triple jump and Riley Sears (6-7 1/2) took the high jump.
On the women’s side, Addison Eisenbeisz was tops in the high jump at 5-7.
Emily Altenburg (17-6), Emma Stewart (17-4 3/4) and Eisenbesz (17-1 1/4) swept the top three spots in the long jump. Chloe Holtz took first in the triple jump with a mark of 37-11 1/2.
Oksana Covery crossed first in the 400 with a 57.21-second clocking.
Micayla TerWee placed second in the weight throw (58-0 1/4) and third in the shot put (45-3 3/4).
The Summit League Indoor Track and Field Championships are Friday and Saturday at the SJAC.
