BROOKINGS – Jameson Meyer took a shutout into the seventh inning and the Bandit offense came alive late as Post 74 beat Huron 7-1 in a Legion baseball matchup Tuesday evening at Bob Shelden Field.

Meyer tossed a three-hitter, allowing one run with five strikeouts and a walk. He threw 86 pitches.

The right-hander lowered his ERA to 2.35 in 44 2/3 innings. He has a 4-2 record in eight appearances, including seven starts.

Tuesday marked Meyer’s fourth complete game of the season – he’s 4-0 with a 0.52 ERA in such outings.

Brookings put up two runs in the fifth and five in the sixth en route to pushing its home winning streak to four.

The Bandits’ Nos. 1-4 hitters went a combined 9-for-16 with six RBIs.

Leadoff Tyler Kreutner, who is batting .361, went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Brady Ammann, who doubled, and Rhett Zelinsky both finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Jacob Schoon also ended up 2-for-4.

In the fifth, Kreutner, Schoon, Zelinsky (RBI) and Ammann (RBI) had consecutive one-out singles to get the Bandits going.

Post 74 took advantage of a pair of errors – Christian Mediger and Ryan McMacken both reached – in the sixth. Tanner Shepardson was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Kreutner stroked a two-run single up the middle to double the margin and chase Huron starter Walker Schlitz.

Zelinsky added an RBI hit with one away, before Ammann drove in a run with a double.

Parker Rykhus’ groundout plated Zelinsky to make it 7-0.

Meyer didn’t issue a walk until Jake Wehde drew a base on balls with two away in the seventh. He took second on defensive indifference and scored on Daynon Huber’s single for Post 7’s lone run.

Schlitz had a three-hit shutout through four frames before running into trouble. He gave up six runs – two earned – on eight hits with three strikeouts and a walk in five-plus innings.
