VOLGA – The driver escaped before a Ford pickup became engulfed in flames, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
The fire was reported at 8:34 p.m. Sunday and occurred at 464th Avenue and 215th Street, south of Volga, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.
“It was found that the 1999 Ford F350 stalled. The driver was able to get it started and then smelt smoke and then saw smoke coming from the vents inside the vehicle and under the hood,” Sebring said.
“The driver was able to safely exit the vehicle, which then became engulfed in flames. The Volga Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire, but the vehicle was a total loss,” he said.
“The fire is believed to be mechanical or electrical in nature and is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office,” Sebring said.
