SDSU equestrian team falls 13-6 to No. 7 TCU on Senior Day

BROOKINGS – The South Dakota State equestrian team fell to No. 7 TCU, 13-6, in its Senior Day meet Friday at the DeHaan Equestrian Center.

Following the meet, the Jackrabbits honored seniors Jacey Chorlton, Bailey Olson, Matilyn Skinner and Whitney Vesey.

SDSU dropped equitation over fences 4-1. Claire Garduno tallied SDSU’s lone point, scoring a 67.

Three career-highs were set in horsemanship for SDSU, including Vesey, who scored a 76.5 in the final home ride of her career. Jordan Gates (76) and Kodi O'Boyle (74) also reset career highs, but the Jacks dropped the event 3-1 to put the score at 7-2 in favor of the Horned Frogs at the halfway point.

Catelyn Hall earned the lone point for the Jackrabbits in reining, scoring a 69 to defeat her opponent. TCU took the event to push their lead to 11-3.

SDSU finished strong, taking equitation on the flat 3-2 behind Chorlton's MOP ride of 71. Jessica Martinez (52) and Claire Garduno (53) also earned points with their rides.

South Dakota State heads to Dover, Del., for a pair of meets March 1-2 against Delaware State and currently ranked No. 8 Oklahoma State, each beginning at 9 a.m.
