SDSU Roundup: Men’s golf team takes 12th at Hawkeye Invitational

IOWA CITY, Iowa – South Dakota State shot 626 (299-327) and finished 12th in the weather-shortened Hawkeye Invitational, which concluded Saturday at the 7,239-yard, par-72 Finkbine Golf Course.

Iowa State carded a 7-over-par 583 (280-303) to win the team title by a shot over host Iowa (285-299—584).

Kansas State’s Jeremy Gandon was medalist at 8-under 136 (66-70). The Hawkeyes’ Alex Schaake (68-72—140) and Alex Moorman (68-73—141) were second and third, respectively. Moorman was competing as an individual.

The Jackrabbits’ Alejandro Perazzo (72-82—154) tied for 40th, Jacob Otta (75-81—156) tied for 50th, Jared Nicolls (75-83—158) tied for 57th, Max Donohue (77-82—159) tied for 60th and Michael Duch (80-82—162) took 67th.

Thirteen teams and 75 individuals competed in the event.

The Summit League Men’s Golf Championship is April 29-May 1 at Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kan.

Women’s tennis

SIOUX FALLS – South Dakota beat South Dakota State 7-0 in a Summit League dual Friday at Huether Family Match Pointe.

The Coyotes won five of the six singles matches in straight sets, the exception being Habiba Aly’s 2-6, 6-2, 10-7 defeat of Morgan Brower at No. 3.

Jana Lazarevic dropped Katerina Tretyakova 6-1, 6-0 in the top singles match.

The Jackrabbits’ dual against Omaha scheduled for Saturday was canceled.

SDSU finished the season with an 0-17 (0-4) record.

Men’s tennis

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha dropped South Dakota State 5-2 in a dual Sunday at Miracle Hill Tennis Center for its first Summit League victory of the season.

The Jackrabbits’ Marco Paulo Castro beat Marko Minic 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 4 singles match. Alberto Gonzalez won by forfeit at No. 6.

Omaha won three of the other four singles matches in straight sets, including Razvan Grigorescu’s 6-4, 6-2 defeat of Emerson Styles at No. 1. At No. 3, UNO’s Matt Dunn won 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 over Alexander Reinke.

The Mavericks won two of the three doubles matches to earn the other point.

SDSU (0-17, 0-4) wraps up the season with three duals in Sioux Falls this week, beginning with a matchup against Augustana on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Jackrabbits then have two conference duals, taking on Oral Roberts on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and Denver on Sunday at 8 a.m.
