Top seeds garner wins at Class B Boys’ Tournament

ABERDEEN – The seeding held in the opening round of the Class B Tournament on Thursday at the Barnett Center.

Top-seeded Bridgewater-Emery defeated Lower Brule, 63-53, while second-seeded Sully Buttes downed Timber Lake, 62-53. Third-seeded White River rallied past Langford Area, 52-43, and No. 4 Clark/Willow Lake powered past Canistota, 57-47.

Friday’s consolation action tips off at noon with the eighth-seeded Sioux taking on the fifth-seeded Hawks before the seventh-seeded Panthers face the sixth-seeded Lions at 1:45 p.m.

The Huskies and Cyclones square off at 6 p.m. while the Chargers and Tigers tangle at 7:45 p.m. in the championship semifinals.

• Bridgewater-Emery 63, Lower Brule 53

The top-seeded Huskies put up a 20-8 lead after the first eight minutes and kept a double-digit lead at each break to down Lower Brule, 63-53.

Bridgewater-Emery was up 34-23 at halftime and 46-35 through three before the Sioux closed with an 18-17 fourth-quarter surge.

Sawyer Schultz led the Huskies with 20 points to go along with eight rebounds, three assists and three blocks while Carter Dye posted a double-double of 17 points and 10 boards. Cole Gassman added 15 points, six boards, six steals and four dimes as Jamin Arend finished with 10 points and three assists as BE improved to 21-3.

Shane Sazue Jr. netted 17 points, grabbed seven rebounds and came away with four steals while Ben Long Crow and Jayshawn Milton added 11 points each as the eighth-seeded Sioux dropped to 16-8.

• Clark/Willow Lake 57, Canistota 47

The fourth-seeded Cyclones used a 15-7 surge in the third quarter to come back from a 13-9 first-quarter deficit and advance past Canistota, 57-47.

The game was tied 23-23 at halftime before the CWL second-half rally.

Jacob Prouty dropped a game-high 27 points as Ntai Stevens posted a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds. Bradyn Rusher added 10 points as the Cyclones improved to 19-5.

Connor Carlson had a double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Hawks, who fell to 20-4. Trey Ortman added 11 points.

• Sully Buttes 62, Timber Lake 53

The second-seeded Chargers use a 27-18 fourth-quarter run to pull away from a 35-35 tie through three quarters to pull out the win over No. 7 Timber Lake.

The Panthers trailed 6-5 after one and 16-12 at halftime before rallying with a 23-19 third-quarter surge to tie the game after three.

Lincoln Jordre posted a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead 23-1 Sully Buttes as Devan Kleven netted 17. J Howard added 13 points and nine boards while Nick Wittler had 11 points as the Chargers held a 43-15 edge on the glass.

Brayden PayPay scored a game-high 21 points for the Panthers, who dropped to 19-4. Tucker Kraft finished with 19 points and eight rebounds.

• White River 52, Langford Area 43

The third-seeded Tigers overcame a one-point deficit through three quarters with a 19-9 fourth-quarter surge to knock off No. 6 Langford Area, 52-43.

The Lions led 12-10 after one and 34-33 through three after a halftime tie of 20-20 before the White River rally.

Teron Sazue scored 15 and Jadice Morrison added 13 for the Tigers, who improved to 22-2.

Mason Larson posted a double-double with game highs of 19 points and 10 rebounds for Langford Area, which dropped to 19-5.
