CLOQUET, Minn. – The Wilderness beat the Blizzard 7-2 in an NAHL Central Division game Saturday night at Northwoods Credit Union Arena.
Nate Horn and Dylan Johnson (power play) scored in the first period. Goals by Horn (power play) and Jack Johnson gave the hosts to a 4-0 advantage at the 12:30 mark of the second period.
Brookings’ Owen Belisle found the back of the net with 5:56 to go in the second. Anthony Szurlej and James Orr assisted.
Jack Johnson scored later in the period.
Shane Hathaway’s unassisted tally with 13 seconds to go in the second pulled Brookings within 5-2.
Aaron Myers and Colin Baird scored power-play goals 42 seconds apart with less than 5 minutes remaining in the third to provide for the final margin.
Ryan Fanti made 22 saves for the Wilderness (15-12-1-0, 31 points). The Blizzard’s George McBey stopped 40 shots.
Brookings (3-24-1-1, 8 points) is host to Aberdeen on Friday, Dec. 28, at 7:05 p.m.
