Wayne Avery is running for re-election to the Brookings City Council. He is currently completing his third year of service to the people of Brookings. If you ask him what he has accomplished during that time, he will tell you the things for which he feels a sense of satisfaction were not accomplished just by him but by the council as a whole.

Wayne is not only humble, he is also smart, hardworking and a consensus builder. As a council member, he works with SDSU, Brookings County and our representatives in Pierre to achieve the best results for us. His expertise, gained from his 45 year employment in banking industry, brings an important asset to the Council. During the last three years if council members were invited to events, committee meetings or other activities, you would always find Wayne in attendance for the purpose of educating himself on issues important to our community.

He asks thoughtful questions and votes in a manner guaranteed to bring the most good to the most people. He has no hidden agenda. During his three years of service, he contributed to the development of sorely needed workforce housing by voting for the city to provide land for such housing and supporting developers in obtaining grants for the project on the south side of town. He advocated for our local mental health center and voted to award the center $1.2 million from the city’s ARPA funds for capital improvements to the facility. He also was involved in and made contributions to the building of the new I29 interchange. These are just a few of the projects which he supported. Wayne is a strategic planner and has a vision for Brookings which I admire. Please join me in voting for Wayne Avery on April 9.
