Betty L. Hanson, 77, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024 at the South Dakota Human Services Center in Yankton, SD.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, at Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings, SD.
Betty Lou (Mullinix) Hanson was born on October 19, 1946 to Mary (Morrison) Hanvey and Lee Hanvey in Columbus, Georgia. She was adopted by J.B. and Gertrude Mullinix when she was a young girl and they later made their way to Brookings, South Dakota.
Betty attended and graduated from Brookings High School and was blessed with having a son, Brian, with her then husband, Loren Hanson.
Betty attended Stewart’s Beauty School in Sioux Falls, SD, and after graduating, went on to work at the Carousel Salon in Brookings, SD. Her love as a beautician led her to purchase her own salon in Brookings, The Charm. After living out her passion for many years, she eventually sold The Charm and sought further employment. She worked at Ace Hardware, Casey’s then Runnings until her final retirement (all while doing hair for friends and family in her free time of course)!
Betty was a good friend to those that were close to her and would do anything for them. She was always well dressed with her hair, makeup, and nails done flawlessly; all while being adorned with her fancy jewelry (mostly turquoise – her favorite), no matter what she was doing, or where she was going. Betty always enjoyed a good cup of coffee or a Diet Coke especially while watching her favorite shows on TV. Anyone that knew Betty, knew she loved her animals. Whether that be her numerous cats or her beloved dogs. They were all spoiled by her beyond measure. She was famous for making an extra trip to Hardee’s just so her dogs could get their favorite sandwich.
Betty is survived by her son, Brian (Wendy) Hanson of Brookings, SD; grandchildren, Jessica Davis of Brookings, SD; Brandon (Kacey) Hanson of Garretson, SD, Jake (Sarina) Hanson of Brookings, SD; great-grandchildren, Myles, Kamden, Creed, Knox, Karver, Kelton and Kade.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J.B and Gerturde Mullinix and her very special friend, Sue (Krogh) Eversole.
