Bobcats smash six home runs in win over Mitchell

The Brookings Bobcats’ offense led the way as they picked up a 20-1 win over the Mitchell Kernels on Tuesday afternoon. Six home runs highlighted the win as Kymber Buys hit three homers, Morgan Norgaard homered twice and Kinzey Grendler had one home run.

Bobcats smash six home runs in win over Mitchell

MITCHELL – The Brookings Bobcats’ offense led the way as they picked up a 20-1 win over the Mitchell Kernels on Tuesday afternoon. Six home runs highlighted the win as Kymber Buys hit three homers, Morgan Norgaard homered twice and Kinzey Grendler had one home run.

Norgaard led off the game with a home run before Buys followed up with a two-run homer three batters later to give the Bobcats a 3-0 lead. Norgaard hit a three-run homer in the top of the second inning before Grendler hit a grand slam later in the inning to put Brookings up 10-0.

Buys hit a grand slam of her own in the top of the third inning to put Brookings up 14-0 before a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning. Tessa Twedt drove in a run with a single, Megan Wadsworth drove in a run on a fielder’s choice and Sydney Bebensee and Buys each drove in runs with singles before Tess Burns was hit by a pitch for Brookings’s final run of the game.

Miedema drove in the lone run for Mitchell with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Kylie Moe started the game for the Bobcats, allowing two hits with two strikeouts over two scoreless innings. Burns threw 2.2 innings, allowing three hits and three walks with a strikeout. Quinn Kurtenbach got the final out of the game allowing one earned run on a walk with a strikeout.

Buys went 4-for-4 in the game with eight RBI and three home runs. Norgaard went 3-for-3 with two homers, four RBI, four runs scored and a pair of walks. Grendler went 1-for-3 with a home runs, two runs scored, four RBI and a walk.

Twedt went 2-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base. Wadsworth went 2-for-3 with three runs scored, an RBI and a walk. Bebensee went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk.

Moe went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Burns went 1-for-2 with a run scored, an RBI and two walks. Layla Jacobsma drew a walk and had a stolen base.

The Bobcats improved to 4-3 with the win and will host Rapid City Central at the Southbrook Softball Complex at 4 p.m. Friday.
