The Brookings Bobcats had a busy afternoon as they won two of three games during a quadrangular at the Southbrook Softball Complex on Friday.

Brookings Bobcats notch two wins in quadrangular

BROOKINGS — The Brookings Bobcats had a busy afternoon as they won two of three games during a quadrangular at the Southbrook Softball Complex on Friday.

The Bobcats defeated Pierre 6-5 and Rapid City Central 20-0 but lost to Sioux Falls Lincoln 6-0.

Brookings is now 6-4 on the season and will travel to O’Gorman for a game at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

Brookings 6, Pierre 5

Brookings jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning when Kylie Moe hit a one-out double, stole third base and scored on a passed ball. Sydney Bebensee reached on a single in the same at-bat, stole second base and advanced to third base on an error before she was driven in on Kymber Buys’s RBI single to put the Bobcats up 2-0.

Morgan Norgaard walked with one out in the bottom of the third inning before stealing second and third base in consecutive at-bats and scoring on a passed ball to make it a 3-0 game.

Tess Burns led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a double and Brooklyn Benthin scored on a passed ball as a courtesy runner to put Brookings up 4-0. Morgan Wadsworth drove in a run with a single later in the fourth inning before Pierre made its move in the top of the sixth inning.

BreAnna Lowery and Noel Kist led off the inning with back-to-back singles and Lowery scored on an error to put the Governors on the board. Jenna Bucholz later drove in a run with an RBI double and Pierre scored three runs on an error by Norgaard to tie the game at 5-5.

The five-run inning would be the only blemish on the afternoon and after Norgaard walked to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning, she stole second base and made her way home on an error to give the Bobcats the walk-off victory.

Moe started for the Bobcats in the circle and allowed five runs (two earned) on five hits and a walk with five strikeouts over seven innings.

Bebensee finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and two stolen bases. Burns went 2-for-3 with a double and Keisha Cushing went 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base. Moe went 1-for-3 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored while Wadsworth went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base. Norgaard walked twice, scored twice and stole three bases.

Brookings 20, Rapid City Central 0

The Bobcats used a 16-run first inning to make short work of the Cobblers on Friday afternoon.

Norgaard led off the game with a walk before Moe doubled and Bebensee was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Buys drove in the first run of the game with a walk before Burns drove in a run on a sacrifice fly and Bebensee scored on an error to make it 3-0.

Kinzey Grendler and Tessa Twedt drew back-to-back walks before Buys scored on a passed ball and Cushing, Wadsworth and Norgaard each drew walks before Moe was hit by a pitch.
Bebensee, Buys, and Burns each drove in another walk with walks before Grendler drove in two runs with an RBI single.

Twedt walked and Cushing drove in a run with a single before Wadsworth walked, Kylie Moe walked to drive in a run and Bebensee drove in a run with a single to cap the scoring in the first inning.

The Bobcats added four more runs in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI double by Cushing, a Norgaard hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded and a bases-loaded walk by Beenthin. Brookings scored its final run on an error later in the second inning.

Burns started the game allowing a walk and a strikeout in one scoreless inning and Grendler finished the game allowing a hit and striking out three batters in the final two innings.

Cushing went 2-for-2 with a double, three RBI, a walk and three runs scored. Moe went 1-for-1 with a double two RBI, a walk and two runs scored. Bebensee went 1-for-2 with two RBI, two runs scored and a walk. Grendler went 1-for-2 with two RBI, two runs scored and a walk. Norgaard walked twice with two RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base. Benthin walked once with an RBI.

Buys walked twice with two runs scored, two RBI and two stolen bases. Layla Jacobsma walked once and scored a run. Twedt walked three times and scored three times. Wadsworth walked three times with two runs scored and an RBI.

Sioux Falls Lincoln 6, Brookings 0

The Bobcats were held hitless and committed six errors in a loss to the Patriots.

Lincoln scored early on Norah Christansen’s RBI single in the top of the first inning and had three runs score on errors to go ahead 4-0. The Patriots added two more runs on an error and Marisa Riddle’s steal of home in the top of the third inning.

Burns took the loss for the Bobcats, allowing six unearned runs on seven hits and three walks with five strikeouts.Madison Evans took the win for Lincoln allowing a walk and striking out 18 batters in seven innings.

Norgaard drew a walk in two at-bats for the Bobcats.
