Denise Smith named Legionette of the Year for Arlington unit

Posted

The Arlington unit recently recognized Denise Smith as Legionette of the Year for the Arlington American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 42, in District 6 for the following reasons:

  • Smith has been a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her grandmother signed her up when she was a child under her grandfather, who served in World War II.
  • She belonged to the Bruce Auxiliary unit until it closed and then transferred to Arlington in which she has become a vital member.
  • She has made the Girls State program her own. She has organized the Girl State luncheon, power point and collects the applications. She sees to it that everything is running smoothly.
  • As a junior member she was privileged to attend Girls State and has even gone recently as a visitor to see what has all changed.
  • Because she works at the Arlington School, it is easy for her to organize the dictionary program and the poppies poster contest as well as the Americanism poetry and essay contest.

Also, in the spring of the year, we hold a flag etiquette class where she does the training for this.

Whenever there is anything that needs done, she is there to lend a hand. It doesn’t matter if its American Legion Auxiliary, school or community.
