Kim R. Ullom, 56, of Aurora, SD, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at The Dougherty House in Sioux Falls due to complications after a long battle with melanoma cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Brookings. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings.
Kim Reyne Smith was born on April 27, 1966, in Mitchell, SD, the daughter of Ronald and Paulette (Moran) Smith. She grew up in Mitchell and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1984. She went on to Stewart’s School for Hair. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Bob Ullom on Feb. 14, 1986, in Mitchell. They were blessed with four children, Ashlee, Robby, Stacee and Adam. They briefly lived in Mitchell and Aberdeen before settling in the Brookings area. She began working at Shear Magic Hair Salon as a hairstylist, which she and Bob later purchased and operated for 35 years. She had a fondness for photography, spending time scrapbooking and having her own photography business for the past 10 years.
Kim will be remembered for her contagious laugh, devotion to her family, and love for her clients. Kim enjoyed baking for her family. Her famous chocolate chip cookies were in high demand by family and friends.
Kim had a passion for all the holidays. She enjoyed decorating her home for every holiday and thrived hosting all the family gatherings. She loved shopping and spoiling her family. Her family was her pride and joy.
She was always available with a listening ear, a suggestion to make the situation better, and a bear hug.
Kim never missed attending a school or sporting event. She loved caring for her grandchildren and had a special relationship in helping raise her eldest granddaughter, Tyra. She cherished the bonds she created with her clients. They meant the world to her, many of them considered as family.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Ullom, of Aurora, SD; her four children, Ashlee (Mark) Schultz of Brookings, SD, Robby (Ariel) Ullom of Brookings, SD, Stacee (Mike) Madsen of Brookings, SD and Adam (Brooke) Ullom of Sioux Falls, SD; step son, Jessie Ullom of Charlotte, NC; 15 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; mother, Paulette Smith of Brookings, SD; sister, Kris Heaton of Brookings, SD; one brother, Mike Smith of White, SD along with a host of in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Kim was preceded in death by her father; brother, Greg Smith and a niece in infancy.
