Brookings Rangers complete group play undefeated at National Tournament

With a win over Jesuit (Texas), team will face Owen J. Roberts (Pa.) in quarterfinals on Saturday morning

WEST CHESTER, Pa. — The Brookings Rangers completed group play undefeated as they picked up a 4-2 win over the Jesuit Rangers (Texas) at the 2024 USA Hockey-Chipotle High School Division 1 National Championship Tournament on Friday morning.

Owen Schneider opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the tournament on the power play from Jay Harris and Ren Jacobsen at 10:47 of the first period. 

Wade Bryan tied the game for Jesuit with an assist from Liam Placke 45 seconds into the second period but the Rangers regained the lead with their second power play goal of the game by Luke Honkomp from Riley Linstad and Schneider 38 seconds later.

The Rangers went into the third period with a 2-1 lead before Schnieder scored his second goal of the game and his fifth goal of the tournament from Jacobsen at 3:34 of the third period. Riley Linstad added an empty net goal with 1:52 to play and the Rangers went on to win the NHL division at the tournament.

Egan Jensen started and made 23 saves for the Rangers. Brookings ahd 40 shots while Jesuit had 25 shots.

The Rangers will open the playoffs portion of the tournament when they face Owen J. Roberts (Pa.) at 7:15 a.m. CDT on Saturday. The winner of that game will play in the semifinals at 2:30 p.m. CDT on Saturday with the championship game slated for 7:45 a.m. CDT Sunday.
