Ethan, Lyman and Centerville all advanced in the Class B State Tournament

RAPID CITY – Ethan, Lyman and Centerville all advanced in the Class B Girls State Basketball Tournament at Summit Arena at The Monument on Thursday.

No. 4 seeded Ethan will play No. 1 Arlington in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Central time on Friday and No. 7 Lyman and No. 3 Centerville will play at 8:45 p.m.

A strong third quarter was the difference between the Rustlers and the Eagles on Thursday afternoon.

The two teams traded buckets in the first quarter and were tied 16-16 at the end of the quarter. The second quarter was much more of the same and it was tied 22-22 heading into the second half. 

Ethan then scored eight straight out of halftime to go up 33-25. The Eagles cut the lead to 35-31 but the Rustlers would lead 40-33 heading into the fourth. Ethan led 44-38 with 4:53 to play and Wall went on a 6-0 run to tie the game with just over three minutes left. The Rustlers then scored seven of the final eight points and were able to advance to the semifinals.

Ethan shot 36.7% from the field and was 4-of-17 from three. Ava Lingemann and Rachel Klock each had 15 points to lead the Rustlers. Klock had nine rebounds and Lingemann had five boards and seven assists. Madaline Artschrer had 10 points. 

Wall shot 25% from the field and was 4-of-22 from three. Nora Dinger and Rhea Tucker each had 12 points for the Eagles. Tucker had eight points and four assists. Faith Frink had nine points and seven rebounds. Paige Kjerstad had seven points and 12 boards. 

Wall had 41 rebounds and Ethan had 37. The Eagles had 17 turnovers and the Rustlers had 16. Ethan was 11-of-18 at the free throw line and Wall was 12-of-19.

n No. 7 Lyman 54, No. 2 Harding County 49

The Raiders were able to hang on a pull of the upset over undefeated Harding County on Thursday.

Lyman led 11-8 at the end of the first quarter and then took a 26-22 lead into halftime. The Raiders extended their lead 41-35 at the end of third and that was enough to keep Harding County at arms length in the fourth quarter.

The Raiders shot 32.7% from the field and were 2-of-17 from three. Skyler Volmer led Lyman with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Mak Scott had 14 points and nine boards. Brooke Palmer had 13 points.

Harding County shot 26.9% from the field and was 3-of-10. Bailey Verhulst had 12 points to lead the Ranchers. Stacie Carda had 11 points and Jaelyn Wendt had nine points and 12 rebounds.

Lyman had 44 rebounds and Harding County 42. The Raiders had 29 turnovers Harding County had 25. Lyman was 20-of-28 at the free throw line and Harding County was 18-of-39 at the charity stripe.

n No. 3 Centerville 59, No. 6 Warner 50

The third-seeded Tornadoes pulled away from the Monarchs in the second half to advance to the semifinals.

Centerville led 12-8 at the end of the first quarter but Warner outscored the Tornadoes 13-9 in the second quarter and it was 21-21 heading into halftime. The Tornadoes then outscored the Monarchs 20-16 in the third quarter and 18-13 in the final quarter to get the win.

The Tornadoes shot 47.1% from the field and were 4-of-19 from three. Althea Gust led Centerville with 25 points. Emma Marshall and Izzie Eide each had 14 points. Marshall had six rebounds and Eide had five boards.

Warner shot 37.7% from the field and was 5-of-14 from beyond the arc. The Monarchs were led by Sophia Hoeft who had 13 points. Kyleigh Schopp had eight points and nine rebounds and Kyra Marcuson had nine points.

Warner had 36 rebounds and Centerville had 31. The Monarchs had 17 turnovers and the Tornadoes had 13. Centerville was 9-of-14 at the line and Warner was 3-of-9.
