SELLERSBURG, Ind. - The South Dakota State men’s golf team finished runner-up at the Summit League Championships Tuesday at Covered Bridge Golf Club. Luke Honner tied for third overall to pace the Jackrabbits.

SDSU tallied a 282 (-6) team score Tuesday and went back-and-forth all day with Kansas City at the top of the leaderboard. Ultimately the Roos, who went a blistering 17-under on their final lap, came away with their second consecutive league title. The Jackrabbits’ 840 (-24) final team score is the best at the Summit League Championships in program history.

“I don’t have many words about this group,” said head coach Parker Edens. “I’m so proud of them. They are special, just a bunch of dogs. Incredibly tough fighters, street fighters as we’d say it in our circle. They put themselves in some awesome positions the last couple weeks and handled them great.”

The five competing Jackrabbits tallied individual scores that rank in the top-12 all-time for a Jackrabbit at the Summit League Championships.

Honner carded a final-round 67 (-5) to improve 10 spots in the leaderboard from Monday. His 209 (-7) sets a new Summit League Championships record for the Jacks. The sophomore recorded six birdies on the day and had just one hole over par.

Tyler Seeling tied for 10th place with a 211 (-5), matching the second-best 54-hole score at the tournament in program history. Ty Kretz was just one shot back in a tie for 12th place with the fifth-best Summit League tally in the SDSU record book. (212, -4).

Blake Schaper tied for 17th place. His 214 (-2) matches the seventh-best score for a Jackrabbit all-time at the Summit League Championships. Bryson Mercier finished in a tie for 24th place. His 216 (E) is the 12th best score by a Jackrabbit at the Summit League Championships in program history.

Kansas City’s Mesa Falleur finished 11-under to earn medalist honors.

“It’s so incredibly hard to win in college golf and everything has to align perfectly,” added Edens. “It wasn’t our day but these guys have so much to be proud of. The best part is, everyone is back next year and we can’t be more excited for the future of Jackrabbit golf.”
