Volunteers continue search for Thomas Hill

ARLINGTON (AP), About 30 volunteers continue their search for a missing duck hunter on Brush Lake in Brookings County.
Searchers were at the lake from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Brookings County Emergency Management Director Bob Hill said.

Local man arrested on drug charges

BROOKINGS, A 35-year-old Brookings man was arrested in an ongoing investigation that included the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and the postal inspector, according to the Brookings Police.
The arrest took place Monday afternoon, said Lt. Derrick Powers.

Car hit while parked

WHITE, A hit and run accident left a vehicle with more than a $1,000 in damage, according to the Brookings County Sheriff's Office.
The incident was reported at 10:30 a.m. Monday and occurred in the 100 block of North Evans Avenue in White, said Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring.

65 years for child rape, sexual contact

BROOKINGS, An Elkton man convicted of raping one girl and having sexual contact with another at his home last summer has been sentenced to 65 years in prison.
Authorities said that John Waite, 59, raped and molested two girls, ages 8 and 9, between June 2 and Aug. 21, 2016. The defendant and the girls were known to one another.

SUV hits bridge on I-29

BROOKINGS, The Brookings Fire Department went out on two calls Saturday, once in the wee hours for an accident on Interstate 29.
The call came at 12:45 a.m. Saturday on I-29 near mile marker 126, for an SUV that had struck a bridge and ended up on its side, said Fire Chief Darrell Hartmann.

Loud party results in 24 busts

BROOKINGS, Brookings Police answered a call about a loud party and wound up busting 24 underage drinkers this weekend, said Lt. Derrick Powers.
The report came in shortly before midnight Friday, he said. The party was in the 700 block of Eleventh Avenue.
"The complaint was the party was being loud with a bunch of people outside," he said.

Dogs aid in ongoing search for Thomas Hill

BROOKINGS, The search continues on Brush Lake for missing duck hunter Thomas Hill of White, but officials have not been able to narrow the search field yet, said Robert Hill, manager of Brookings County Emergency Management, who is no relation to Thomas Hill.
"It's still kind of wide open; we're starting to exclude some areas," Robert Hill said.

Man assaulted by four suspects

BROOKINGS, Brookings Police are looking for four people who assaulted a man early Sunday morning, said Lt. Derrick Powers.
The assault was reported about 12:30 a.m. Sunday by a victim who said he was assaulted at an establishment in the 300 block of Main Avenue, Powers said.
