1 school board, 2 council seats opening

BROOKINGS – Three posts are up for grabs in this spring’s Brookings City Council and Brookings School Board election.

Opening are two three-year city council seats, now held by Dan Hansen and Ope Niemeyer, and one three-year school board position, held by Wes Tschetter.

Nominating petitions and candidate packets for council candidates will be available starting next Friday, Jan. 31, at the City Clerk’s Office in the Brookings City & County Government Center, 520 Third St. School board petitions will be available at the Brookings School District business office at 2130 Eighth St. S.

The deadline to file petitions is 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28. If more candidates file petitions than there are seats available, the city-school election is April 14.
