262 new COVID-19 cases, no new deaths reported in South Dakota Tuesday

BROOKINGS – The state is reporting 262 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths in South Dakota Tuesday.

Twenty-one of the new cases are in Brookings County.

Brookings County cases have risen to 4,026 total cases (eight new confirmed and 13 new probable): 3,803 of those people have recovered (14 new), with 186 active cases (up by seven) and 37 deaths (no change). A total of 13,011 people (36 new) have tested negative in Brookings County, and 146 people (no change) in the county have been hospitalized at some point, the state reported.

There are no COVID-19 occupied hospital beds at the Brookings Hospital, the DOH website reported Tuesday.

The county is in the “substantial” community spread category.

The number of COVID-19 cases in South Dakota rose to 120,154 (262 new – 193 confirmed plus 69 probable) as of midday Tuesday, according to the South Dakota Department of Health.

Of the statewide cases, 2,439 are classified as active (up by 14 from Monday). As of Tuesday, 115,768 people have recovered (248 new), 7,158 South Dakotans have been hospitalized at some point (22 new), 106 people are currently hospitalized (up by 10) for transmission-based precautions, and 1,947 people have died (no change).

The SDDOH website reports 334,030 people (660 new) have tested negative in South Dakota.

Increases in positive cases Tuesday include, but are not limited to, 21 in Brookings County, 14 in Brown, 22 in Codington, 12 in Lincoln, 86 in Minnehaha and 24 in Pennington.

The SDDOH website reported midday Tuesday that 502,498 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to 303,903 people in South Dakota, as reported to the S.D. Immunization Information System. 

Doses administered by Indian Health Services, Veterans Affairs Medical Centers, Department of Defense and Bureau of Prisons are not included in the state’s vaccine count.

In Brookings County, 18,066 vaccine doses have been administered to 11,486 people, the SDDOH website reports. As of Tuesday, 32.7% of the total county population has received at least one vaccine dose, and 40.6% of those 16 years and older in Brookings County have received at least one vaccine dose, according to Brookings Health System.

Nearly 51% of the state population has received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine from the state or federal allocation, according to the SDDOH website, and nearly 36% of the state population has completed its vaccination series.
