BROOKINGS – The 22nd Avenue Reconstruction Project between Minnesota Drive and Eastbrook Drive will start soon, and the City of Brookings is alerting motorists of the upcoming detour.

Twenty-second Avenue will be closed to through traffic between Minnesota Drive and the north side of Eastbrook Drive starting Monday, April 8. The project is anticipated to be completed in November.

The detour route will be on Sunrise Ridge Road and Eastbrook Drive as shown on the above map. Traffic control and signage will be installed along the project to inform the public.

The contractor for the project is Timmons Construction, Inc. The project includes full reconstruction to widen the current roadway, replacement of underground utilities, traffic signal upgrades and new street lighting, sidewalk and shared-use path.

The city is reminding the public to use caution when driving or walking near the project area, especially around work areas under construction. “We appreciate everyone’s patience during the project, and the community is looking forward to an improved 22nd Avenue corridor,” according to a press release from the City of Brookings.
