BROOKINGS – The South Dakota State University Concert Choir presents two concerts at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center. The Italian Gala Concert and Fundraiser is Friday, Nov. 15, with the auction starting at 6 p.m. and the concert at 7 p.m. The 17th Biennial Madrigal Feaste is at 7 p.m. Dec. 5-7 and 4 p.m. Dec. 8.

The Italian Gala Concert is the first chance for the public to hear the music the choir will perform during its upcoming tour in Italy. The Concert Choir takes a trip abroad every four years, giving the student musicians the opportunity to act as ambassadors and perform challenging repertoire to worldwide audiences.

“This is an incredible opportunity for the Concert Choir,” Director of Choral Activities Laura Diddle said. “Some of these young people have never been on a plane, much less out of the country. Now they will perform in historic venues like the Basilica of St. Clare in Assisi, St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, and the baroque Church of Ognissanti in Florence.”

The Gala will also serve as a fundraiser for the students. The public can bid on artwork, trips, experiences and many fantastic items, with raffles and silent auction items awarded during intermission. All proceeds will help students fund their travels. Dessert and cocoa will follow the concert.

Less than three weeks later, the Concert Choir presents the reimagined yet traditional Madrigal Feaste. The Feaste is a trip back to Elizabethan England, with a royal court, traditional Madrigal music, jesters and entertainment as the audience enjoys a candle-lit dinner. This is the first time the Feaste will be held in the Performing Arts Center.

“The Concert Choir features some of the hardest working students on the SDSU campus,” Diddle said. “They are attending extra rehearsals, learning incredibly difficult music, and going above and beyond to provide unforgettable experiences for our audiences.”

Tickets for the Italian Gala are $10 apiece, and Madrigal Feaste tickets are $45 per person. All tickets may be purchased at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center box office, or by calling 688-5187. Italian Gala tickets are also available online at www.sdstate.edu/choirs.
