All violence against innocents is horrible

The Rev Carl Kline spoke out three days prior to the November election against “hate and divisiveness” in America (Brookings Register, Nov 3, 2018) - this, after his own two-year trail of derisive and inflammatory invectives against Trump.

Kline first condemned presidential candidate Trump as “morally abysmal” (Brookings Register, Oct 26, 2016).  He followed that up two months later by charging Trump with racism and feigning “horror” over President-elect Trump’s impending inauguration on Jan. 21, 2017.

Kline linked “hateful language” as the underlying factor behind the recent incidents of “pipe bombs, mailed to those who oppose our current president” and the “massacre of 11 Jewish Americans during services at Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh.”

He fairly cited what he believed to be a Trump-supporting political motive to the actions of pipe-bomber Cesar Sayoc Jr., 56, of Aventura, Florida.

He conveniently neglected, however, to properly profile Jewish Synagogue slayer Robert Bower, 46, of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania – an anti-Semite “Trump hater.”

In a related incident, the Brooklyn, synagogue defaced several days later with hate-laced, neo-Nazi graffiti was carried out by James Polite, 26, of Brooklyn –  who happened to be a Democratic activist and former Obama campaign volunteer.  Polite, ironically enough, worked as a New York City anti-hate crime intern, and is also charged with setting a series of fires at yeshivas and other Jewish institutions in the area (NY Post, 11-3-18 / dailycaller.com, 11-3-18).

“Words matter,” according to Kline. Indeed they do.

They mattered just as much several years ago when Kline praised the left-wing “Occupy Wall Street” protest movement for its noble struggle to “reclaim the American dream” (Brookings Register 12-17-11).

Kline should have done a little more homework before sprinkling the group with his words of praise.  Two months earlier, two of the most hateful and divisive groups in America, the American Nazi Party and the Communist Party USA (CPUSA), issued their own official endorsements of the Occupy Wall Street movement and urged their members to support and participate in the radical group’s protest rallies (dailycaller.com, 10-17-17).

He also failed to mention the colorful reputation that “Occupy” had been earning at rallies in various U.S. cities - inciting riots, setting American flags ablaze, and destroying private property (Denver, Charlotte, Portland – November 2011).  The group would continue on, desecrating churches and burning the American Flag (Richmond Times-Dispatch, Feb 2, 2012), and vandalizing property and desecrating Bibles (San Francisco – Jan. 2012).

Kline’s longstanding concern about hateful language and violence in America is admirable, but also conspicuous for its well-defined borders.

For all of his public professions about violence against the innocent and vulnerable in society in the hundreds of columns he has penned in Brookings newspapers over the past 35 years, Rev. Kline has not expressed so much as a solitary word of concern about the fate of unborn babies in abortion clinics, most notably in regard to elective abortions with no other complicating factors.

According to CDC surveillance estimations, 2.5 million abortions were performed in the U.S. over the past three years.  Approximately 9 percent of those involved unborn babies of an estimated gestational age more than 13 weeks.

The South Dakota Department of Health reported 472 induced abortions performed in South Dakota during 2016 (up from 444 in 2015). The primary “reason for induced abortion” in 301 (63.8 percent) of the cases: “mother did not desire to have the child.”  The 472 abortions included 103 babies of an approximate gestational age of 9-10 weeks; 57 babies of 11-12 weeks gestational age; and 26 babies (5.5 percent of the total) of more than 13 weeks.

In unborn babies, a “pipe-shaped” heart is formed during the sixth week and begins to beat with one chamber in week 7. The lungs, liver, pancreas and thyroid gland also begin forming in week 7.

By week 9, well-defined fingers and toes are evident and the heart’s general construction is complete. Unborn children begin to suck their thumbs, jump, “squint to close out light, frown, swallow” during the ninth to 10th weeks. Tiny bones begin to form in the arms and legs, and vocal cords begin to develop in the 13th week.

For the record, President Trump staunchly opposes on-demand abortions with no medical necessity / no other complicating factors – and he does not take money from special interest abortion PACs.

Kline’s favored political party on the other hand, fares well during election cycles according to campaign money-tracker, opensecrets.org.  For the recent 2018 cycle, NARAL Pro Choice America made campaign contributions of $194,367 to U.S. House and U.S. Senate candidates.  Democratic candidates received 100 percent Republicans: 0 percent.

Planned Parenthood made $382,301 in campaign contributions to U.S. House and Senate candidates in the most recent cycle.  Democratic candidates received 98.2 percent of the total.  Independents (5) received 1.3 percent.  Republicans (2) received 0.5 percent

Also for the record, President Trump does not kindly regard groups that burn flags and riot, burn Bibles, and vandalize private property to advance their political goals.
