BROOKINGS – In spite of the summer heat Wednesday afternoon, dedicated volunteers showed up to lend a hand in assembling the Boys & Girls Club of Brookings’ donut booth for the Brookings Summer Arts Festival.

They were among the first groups to start constructing their booth in anticipation of the hungry hordes sure to come this weekend.

The festival is set for 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday in Pioneer Park and is expected to draw tens of thousands of visitors to Brookings this weekend.

The event features the work of 200 artists, 38 food booths, 28 edibles and naturals artisans, antiques, living history and live entertainment on three stages.
