BROOKINGS – Altrusa celebrated “Make a Difference Day” by adopting the Brookings Domestic Abuse Shelter’s playhouse.
Shown, above from left, outside the playhouse are BDAS Executive Director Margo Dempsey and Altrusa members Joan Hegerfeld-Baker, Deb DeBates and Madeleine Rose. Below is the newly refurbished playhouse interior.
The playhouse was in need of a new coat of paint. Altrusa and BDAS staff decided to spruce up the playhouse with primary colors and a circus-train theme inspired by the popular children’s book “The Little Engine that Could.”
The project continued to evolve with new flooring, curtains and furniture.
Altrusa and BDAS extend a special thank you to Sherwin Williams for the paint and Barrett’s for the flooring. The donations certainly provided Altrusa with the means to “Make a Difference.”
The playhouse was the first Habitat Women’s Build in Brookings in 2005.
