Alvira Anderson, 82, of Brookings, died Monday, March 12, 2018, at the Neighborhoods at Brookview. 

 Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Brookings.  Following a time of fellowship at the church, burial will be held at the Trosky Cemetery in Trosky, Minnesota.  Visitation will be held on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.

Alvira  Marie Catherine Stelling was born on July 9, 1935, to Carl and Margaret (Wilkens) Stelling, in Elmer Township, Pipestone, Minnesota.  Alvira spent much of her youth growing up on the farm in Elmer Township, attending grades 1 through 8 at District 69 School in Pipestone County.  She graduated from Pipestone High School in 1953.

On Sept. 22, 1957, Alvira married Orville Anderson in Trosky, Minnesota, and they had two children: Terry and Brian.

Throughout her life, Alvira held positions as a bookkeeper in Pipestone, worked at Shriver’s in Brookings from 1980, until 1985, and Culligan Water of Brookings until her retirement.

Alvira was very committed to her faith, and held all offices in Ladie’s Aid, taught Sunday and Vacation Bible School, and also acted as the organist for nearly 26 years for her church.  

Alvira also enjoyed many other activities throughout her life, including cards, knitting, and puzzle books.  She especially enjoyed television programs such as the Price is Right and Let’s Make A Deal.  Alvira also found great pleasure in music, particularly hymns and classic country music.  

Those surviving Alvira include her daughter, Terry Schultz of Bushnell,  three grandchildren and daughter-in-law Janette (Brian) Anderson.

Alvira was preceded in death by her husband, Orville, son, Brian Anderson;  brothers: Mel and Hans, and sister, Velma.
