Arbor Day saplings for Hillcrest

Hillcrest Elementary School third graders learned about Arbor Day and how to plant and care for trees they received on Friday. Chris Engbrecht and Ryan Burggraff, forestry technicians for the Brookings Parks and Recreation Department, presented a program to the three classes of third graders. The students received American basswood trees, which can grow as tall as 120 feet and require a lot of space in which to grow. For those students without the necessary space for the tree, they could give their tree to family members or friends who have the space.
