Arlington, De Smet pick up lopsided DVC victories at home

ARLINGTON – The homestanding Cardinals beat Elkton-Lake Benton 57-14 in a Dakota Valley Conference girls’ basketball game Thursday.

Arlington forced 33 turnovers, 25 of which came on steals, and limited the Lady Elks to 20 percent (6-of-30) shooting. The Cardinals ended up at 43.9 percent (25-of-57) from the field.

The hosts led 10-2 after a quarter and 23-5 at halftime. They outscored ELB 22-2 in the third to take a 45-7 advantage into the fourth.

Makayla Nelson led the way with game-high totals of 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting and eight rebounds. Hadley Carlson went 6-of-8 while dropping in 12 points off the bench.

Jayna Haufschild contributed seven points and eight boards. Madysn Gilbertson added six points, and Jeryn Christensen and reserve Tessa Nelson both tallied five.

ELB’s Brooklyn Nielsen had five points and six rebounds.

The Michael J. Entringer Scholarship Classic is Saturday in Colman, as Elkton-Lake Benton (0-3, 0-3) takes on Dell Rapids St. Mary at 3:30 p.m. and Arlington (1-1, 1-0) faces Sioux Valley at 5 p.m.

LAKE PRESTON – The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 26-9 lead after a quarter and cruised to their third straight win with the 66-29 Dakota Valley Conference victory over the host Divers.

Rynn Osthus dropped a game-high 16 points to go along with seven assists and four steals for De Smet, 3-0 and 2-0 in the DVC. Reyna Beck chipped in with 13 points, five assists and four steals while Autumn Wilkinson added 12 points and six rebounds.

Ashlyn DeKnikker’s 12 points, six boards, four steals and two blocks were tops for Lake Preston, which dropped to 1-1 and 1-1 DVC.

Both teams play in Saturday’s Entringer Classic, with the Divers facing Chester Area at 12:30 p.m. and De Smet taking on Dell Rapids at 6 p.m.

BERESFORD – Jessica Niles scored on an inbounds play as time expired to lift the Watchdogs over the Fliers in a Big East Conference matchup.

Beresford was up 13-9 after a quarter, but Flandreau led 25-23 at halftime and 32-26 through three. The score was tied at 47-all at the end of regulation.

Niles finished with 14 points for the Watchdogs (2-1, 2-0). Kara Niles added 13 points and Kennedy Goblirsch 12 to go with six rebounds.

The Fliers’ Hannah Parsley had a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds. Ashtyn Bertram added 11 points.

Flandreau (2-1, 1-1) faces Hamlin in the Entringer Classic on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in Colman.

 Dell Rapids St. Mary 58, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 24

DELL RAPIDS – The Cardinals improved to 2-1 overall and evened their Dakota Valley Conference record with a big win over Oldham-Ramona/Rutland on Thursday night.

Ella Griffin scored 12 points  while Maddie Schwebach added 10 for DRSM.

Emily Nold’s seven points and seven rebounds led ORR, which dropped to 0-3 and 0-2 in conference play. Khloe Tiemann added five points as Alicia Spilde pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.

Both teams play in Saturday’s Entringer Classic as ORR takes on Estelline/Hendricks at 2 p.m. and DRSM faces Elkton-Lake Benton at 3:30 p.m.

BOYS

 Colman-Egan 47, Garretson 46

COLMAN – The Hawks outscored Garretson, 13-12, in the fourth quarter to pull out a nonconference win over the Blue Dragons on Thursday night.

Colman-Egan led 7-5 after a quarter and 23-20 at halftime before the Blue Dragons rallied to tie it up at 34-34 through three.

Dalton Voelker posted a double-double with game highs of 22 points and 12 rebounds as Colman-Egan evened its record at 1-1. Nate Tolley and Ty Hiller added nine and eight points, respectively.

Drew Blosmo’s 17 points led Garretson, which dropped to 1-3 overall. Trevor Fiegen contributed a double-double of 15 points and 10 boards.

Colman-Egan travels to Castlewood tonight while the Blue Dragons play host to Baltic on Monday.

LAKE PRESTON – The Bulldogs nearly doubled up Lake Preston in the fourth quarter to pull away for the 15-point Dakota Valley Conference win on Thursday night.

De Smet led 18-17 after a quarter; 35-32 at halftime; and 52-46 through three before outscoring the Divers, 20-11, in the fourth.

Kalen Garry notched 33 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter, while Trevin Holland finished with 16 points and seven rebounds. Rett Osthus chipped in with 10 points and Cody Cavanaugh dished out three assists as the Bulldogs improved to 2-1 and 2-0 in the DVC.

Paydon Casper posted a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Divers, who dropped to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play. Logan Williams added 12 points while Byron Bumann and Jasper Denison chipped in with 11 apiece  as the former handed out eight assists and the latter pulled down nine boards.

On Friday, Dec. 21, De Smet travels to Arlington and Lake Preston plays host to Deubrook Area.

BERESFORD – The Watchdogs outscored the Fliers 10-6 in the fourth quarter to secure a 47-45 Big East Conference boys’ basketball victory Thursday.

Beresford was up 13-10 after a quarter, but Flandreau led 26-22 at halftime and 39-37 through three.

Dallas Davis and Alec Atwood both scored 10 points for the Watchdogs (1-2, 1-1). Caden Elligson added nine points and Tyler Kropenske grabbed eight boards.

The Fliers’ Connor LeBrun finished with 14 points and eight rebounds. Nate Kneebone had 13 points.

Flandreau (1-2, 1-1) is host to Castlewood on Tuesday.
