Arlington, ORR win postseason openers


DE SMET – Arlington, De Smet and James Valley Christian advanced as the Region 3B Volleyball Tournament began Monday.

The Cardinals cruised past Iroquois/Doland 25-10, 25-14, 25-4.

The Lady Bulldogs were 25-19, 22-25, 25-22, 25-10 victors over Wessington Springs.

The Lady Vikings defeated Lake Preston 25-18, 25-16, 25-9.

ID ended the year with a 2-24 mark, while Wessington Springs was 7-20 and the Divers 3-24. 

The quarterfinals are tonight.

In Castlewood, No. 4 Deubrook Area (18-12) and No. 5 Hitchcock-Tulare (18-13) play at 6 p.m. The top-seeded Warriors’ (22-4) matchup with No. 9 De Smet (6-21) is to follow.

In Wolsey, No. 3 Estelline/Hendricks (25-9) takes on No. 6 Arlington (12-19) at 6 p.m. The No. 2 Wolsey-Wessington (19-7) versus No. 7 JVC (14-10) match follows.

The semifinals are Thursday in De Smet.

The Cardinals won 25-10, 25-14, 25-4.

Hadley Carlson racked up 21 kills and notched 13 digs.

Grace Parry netted nine service aces and dished out 29 set assists. Jennica Weiss added four aces and Kasey Pistulka came up with 10 digs.

 James Valley Christian 3, Lake Preston 0

The Lady Vikings were victorious by the set scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-9.

Brenna Held totaled nine kills and three aces. Angelina Zuccaro added nine kills and 10 digs.

For the Divers, Annika Nelson finished with seven kills and 13 digs. Marissa Rober added three kills and Amelia Greene two.

Holly Andrews tallied six set assists, two aces and seven digs. Ava Malone recorded seven digs. Morgan Curd chipped in with an ace and Jocelyn Steffensen dished out three assists.

REGION 4B

DELL RAPIDS/ALEXANDRIA – Oldham-Ramona/Rutland and Hanson picked up first-round victories in the Region 4B Volleyball Tournament on Monday night.

The Raiders topped St. Mary 25-21, 25-11, 25-18 in Dell Rapids.

The Beaverettes were 25-10, 19-25, 25-18, 25-10 victors over Mitchell Christian at home.

The Cardinals finished the year with a 10-16 record and the Golden Eagles ended up 6-13.

The quarterfinals are tonight in Madison.

At the high school, No. 1 Chester Area (21-7) takes on No. 9 ORR (8-17) at 4:30 p.m. and No. 2 Ethan (24-6) faces No. 7 Hanson (10-18) after that.

At the middle school, Colman-Egan (21-8) and Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (11-12) square off in the 4-5 match at 5 p.m., with the No. 3 Elkton-Lake Benton (23-7) versus No. 6 Howard (7-12) match to follow.

The semifinals are Thursday in De Smet.
