Arlington wins Lake Preston Tournament


LAKE PRESTON – Arlington went 4-0, including a 25-18, 25-12 win over Flandreau in the championship match, to win the Lake Preston Volleyball Tournament on Saturday.

The Cardinals beat Waubay/Summit 25-15, 25-13 in the first round, Estelline/Hendricks 24-26, 25-17, 25-11 in the quarterfinals and Flandreau 25-9, 25-19 in the first semifinal.

Sioux Valley bounced back from an opening loss, advancing through the loser’s bracket to reach the second semifinal. The Fliers topped the Cossacks 19-25, 25-23, 25-22 to reach the final.

Jayna Haufschild led the way with 15 kills and a pair of solo blocks. Hadley Carlson added six kills, three service aces and 12 digs.

Marissa Baker notched 21 set assists and eight digs. Jeryn Christensen came up with 17 digs.

Semifinal 1

Haufschild totaled 14 kills as the Cardinals won 25-9, 25-19.

Carlson had six kills, three aces and 16 digs. Baker tallied 20 set assists, two aces and five digs. Christensen had 12 digs and three aces.

Quarterfinal

• Arlington 2, Estelline/Hendricks 1

The Cardinals posted a 24-26, 25-17, 25-11 victory.

Haufschild notched 14 kills and a solo block. Carlson had 10 kills, two aces and 17 digs.

Baker finished with 28 set assists, three aces and six digs. Christensen had 18 digs and a pair of aces.

First Round

•Arlington 2, Waubay/Summit 0

CHaufschild had 12 kills to help the Cardinals win 25-15, 25-13.

Christensen tallied 18 digs and four aces. Baker dished out 17 set assists and Carlson came up with 13 digs.

Hamlin Tournament

HAYTI – Madison posted a 5-0 record, beating Deubrook Area 25-19, 25-16 in the championship match, to win the Hamlin Tournament on Saturday.

The Dolphins and host Chargers both went 3-1 in pool play.

Hamlin beat Sisseton 14-25, 25-18, 25-18 in the third-place match and James Valley Christian dropped Florence/Henry for fifth place.

• Madison 2, Deubrook Area 0

The Lady Bulldogs won 25-19, 25-16.

The Dolphins’ Shaylee DeBeer had 10 kills and 10 digs. Ashley Vandermeer totaled five kills, 2 1/2 blocks (one solo) and a pair of service aces. Sarah Urevig finished with 12 set assists and five digs.

Pool Play

• Deubrook Area 2, Hamlin 1

The Dolphins prevailed 22-25, 27-25, 25-20.

Vandermeer had 13 kills, two aces and nine digs. DeBeer added 13 kills, two solo blocks and 13 set assists. Urevig contributed 19 set assists, five aces and seven digs.

• Deubrook Area 2, Sisseton 0

DeBeer finished with eight kills, eight digs, five aces and seven set assists to lead the Dolphins to a 25-9, 25-17 victory.

Vandermeer had four kills and eight digs. Andrea Vandermeer and Claire Olsen both had four kills. Sarah Urevig dished out eight set assists.

• Deubrook Area 2, Deuel 0

The Dolphins swept the Cardinals.
