BROOKINGS – A local convenience store was robbed at gunpoint and Brookings Police are looking for the suspect, Lt. Marci Gebers said.

The robbery was reported at 10:49 p.m. Sunday and occurred at the Corner Pantry, formerly Gas 'N Mor, at 600 Sixth St., she said in a press release.

“Through the course of the investigation, officers learned the male suspect pointed a black handgun at the employee and demanded cash. The employee complied with the suspect’s demand, and the suspect fled the store with an undetermined amount of cash,” Gebers said.

“The suspect fled on foot to the southeast after exiting the store. The employee was not injured, and the public is not believed to be at risk at this time,” Gebers said.

“The suspect was described as being a skinny, dark-complected caucasian male, who was approximately 5’ 6” tall and was soft spoken. The employee stated the suspect was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt that possibly had red and white print across the chest. He was wearing a black mask and black pants,” Gebers said.
