Arrest made in video lottery burglary

BROOKINGS – A suspect was arrested in Brookings after video lottery machines in Volga were burglarized Friday, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Jeremy Novak, 40, was taken into custody by the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation at the Pump N Pak at Main Avenue and 12th Street South in Brookings and charged with petty theft, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.

The report came in at 3:53 p.m. Friday that the video lottery machines were broken into at the ValleyMart, located at 101 Caspian Ave. in Volga, Sebring said.

“It was found that a suspect had broken into two video lottery machines and stole an undisclosed amount of cash,” Sebring said, adding the suspect was later located in Brookings.

The Brookings Police Department was also involved in the case.
