BROOKINGS – Watertown edged Brandon Valley by four points to win the boys’ title at Thursday’s Steve Berseth ESD Indoor Invite at the SJAC, while Yankton took the girls’ crown as Brookings placed second.
The Bobcat boys finished seventh in the team race.
The Arrows totaled 867.5 points to the Lynx’ 863.5, while the Gazelles were good for 837.5 to the ‘Cats’ 792.
Brookings travels to Huron on Friday, April 5, to open its outdoor season.
Girls
Ellie Abraham led the Bobcats with a pair of individual wins – the 600-meter run (1 minute, 39.93 seconds) and the 1,600 (5:07.95) – while placing seventh in the 3,200 in 13:02.28.
Emily Rystrom added a pair of second-place finishes on the track – the 200 (26.56) and 300 (42.32) – while Ashley Anderson tossed the discus 103 feet, seven inches to garner another second-place mark. Johanna Miller placed eighth with a throw of 89-4.
Rachel Gannon tied with Aberdeen Central’s Abby Kopecky for fourth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 50.69 seconds as Riley Weisbeck crossed in 52.68 for sixth. Gannon also added a fourth-place mark of 32 feet in the triple jump while Julie Schneise placed eighth with a 29-10.5.
Kailee Bartels crossed in 9.54 seconds for fifth in the 60-meter hurdles.
Abraham wasn’t the only ‘Cat to pick up points in the distance races as Kayla Shoup and Ainsley Powers placed third and fifth in the 1,600 with respective times of 5:37.31 and 5:42.01. Ashton Scott finished fifth in the 3,200 in 12:55.15.
Tayla Dobrenski added an eighth-place finish in the high jump when she cleared 4-8.
The Bobcats placed fourth in the Distance Medley Relay while the 4x300 squard finished sixth.
Boys
Isaac Conrad’s time of 1:29.85 for third in the 600 led the individual performances as the Bobcat boys’ finished seventh in the team standings.
Charlie Wang placed fifth in the 800 with a 2:09.91 while Hunter Gray finished seventh in the 300 hurdles in 46.44 seconds.
Junior Zokou tied for seventh in the long jump with a mark of 18-6 while Max Struck went 36-3 in the triple jump for seventh.
Jaden Peterson crossed in 39.78 seconds for eighth place in the 300 dash.
The ‘Cats’ 4x100 relay squad ran to a first-place mark of 45.81 seconds while the DMR foursome finished third in 11:26.48. Brookings also placed seventh in the 4x300 relay.
