BROOKINGS – Organizers say Thursday will be an exciting day at the Brookings Arts Council as the winners of its print and online photography competition are announced at a reception from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
The awards presentation starts at 5 p.m.
This judged competition and exhibit was open to all photographers 14 years and older.
“We are thrilled at the creativity, subject matter and presentation of the 12 print submissions and three online submissions this year,” BAC Executive Director Heather Kuhlman said. “The artists’ eye and professionalism is outstanding, and we believe this to be one of our finest competitions ever!”
Awards will be given in color and black-and-white categories with first- through third-place cash awards for the print division in each category and a new People’s Choice category for the online submissions.
“We are also very pleased to have Shalista Anderson, a Sioux Falls professional photographer, as our judge. Shalista’s years of experience and photographic expertise makes her a wonderful artist to share her love and knowledge of photography as an art and a business,” Kuhlman said.
Anderson has been photographing weddings and portraits all over South Dakota and the U.S. for more than 15 years. She’s won awards from numerous photo groups including the Wedding Photojournalist Association, FUJI and the Association of International Boudoir Photographers. Anderson served on the South Dakota Professional Photographers Association board for five years and has presented at groups such as Iowa PPA and SDPPA. She owns a studio in southern Sioux Falls and now specializes in boudoir and senior photography.
“I am excited to view the work of so many talented local photographers,” Anderson said. “I am sure it will be a challenging and rewarding task.”
The BAC exhibit will close Jan. 26.
