BROOKINGS – A suspect is still at large after threatening another man with a knife, according to Brookings Police.

The assault was reported shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday in the 700 block of Seventh Avenue South, said Lt. Derrick Powers.

The suspect is a 21-year-old Brookings resident and the victim is a 35-year-old Brookings resident, Powers said, adding they know each other.

An argument broke out between the two men during which “the male suspect held a knife to the male victim,” Powers said.

“After this occurred, the male victim attempted to call for help and the male suspect took his phone; at which point the male victim fled the scene ... and went to another location to contact the police department,” Powers said.

Officers did speak to several individuals at the residence, as well as the victim.

“The male suspect has not been located at this time. There are charges pending for aggravated assault and interference with emergency communication,” Powers said.
