Bandits post 1-3 weekend

BROOKINGS – Post 74 split with Watertown on Sunday afternoon after getting swept by Rapid City Post 22 on Friday.

Brookings (5-6) plays a doubleheader at Groton tonight at 5 p.m.

Sunday

Game 1

 Brookings 2, Watertown 0

Jake Ammann threw 6 1/3 scoreless innings and drove in a run as the Bandits dropped Post 17 in the opener.

Ammann allowed just two hits, striking out seven and walking four.

Ashton Witte picked up the save.

Watertown used a walk and hit batsmen to start a rally in the seventh. Ammann struck out the next batter before Witte entered. He induced a popout, hit a batter and then ended it with a groundout.

Brookings scored both its runs in the opening frame.

Leadoff hitter Henry Hammrich was hit by a pitch and catcher Cole Mahlum reached on an error. Jackson Krogman loaded the bases with a bunt single.

Hammrich scampered home on an error.

Following a double play, Ammann stroked an RBI double to make it 2-0.

Watertown’s Kale Stevenson surrendered two runs – both unearned – on four hits with eight Ks and a pair of BBs.

Post 17 scored eight runs in the third to offset an early 5-0 deficit.

The Bandits’ Jamison Honkomp (2-for-2) and Cole Mahlum both doubled, singled and drove in a pair.

Jake Ammann added an RBI.

Henry Hammrich scored three times.

Caden Wright gave up eight runs on eight hits and five walks with three Ks in 2 2/3 innings.

Friday

Game 1

The Hardhats racked up 16 hits, including a pair of home runs.

Bransen Kuehl drove in five, tallying a two-run homer in the first and a two-run double later on.

Pinch-hitter Peyton Tipton belted a grand slam during Post 22’s eight-run fifth frame.

Leadoff Jed Sullivan and catcher Jake Solano both added a pair of RBIs. 

Left-hander Hunter Tillery tossed a three-hitter, surrendering just one run with seven strikeouts and a pair of walks.

Jamison Honkomp logged two of the Bandits’ three hits. He went deep to right in the second frame.

Jackson Krogman took the loss after allowing nine runs – eight earned – on nine hits with three strikeouts and three walks over three innings.

Game 2

The Hardhats scored three runs in both the second and third innings to open up a 6-0 advantage.

Jake Goble went 3-for-4 and scored a trio of runs. His three-run bomb in the fifth made it 11-1.

Luke Jegeris doubled, singled and drove in three. Blake Weaver added two RBIs.

Wyatt Anderson picked up the victory on the mound, giving up one run on three hits with eight Ks and a pair of walks.

Brookings’ Jackson Krogman was 2-for-2. Cole Mahlum had an RBI single in the third.

Lincoln Hardin allowed six runs on eight hits with a strikeout and a walk over 2 2/3 frames.
