ABERDEEN – The Bandits scored 12 runs in the eighth inning to beat the Smittys 17-5 in the completion of a suspended Legion baseball game on Tuesday at Fossum Field.

Brookings led 3-0 in the top of the third when a thunderstorm hit the area and made field conditions unplayable on June 24.

Post 74 scored twice in the top of the third when the game resumed Tuesday to move ahead 5-0.

Aberdeen answered with two runs in the bottom of the third and three in the fourth to pull even.

Cole Mahlum, Tyler Kreutner and Justin Devine singled with one out in the eighth to push across the go-ahead run.

After Jacob Schoon walked, Rhett Zelinsky was hit by a pitch to force in Kreutner.

Parker Rykhus, Tanner Shepardson and Trevor Berreth tallied consecutive run-scoring hits to make it 10-5.

Carter Wright and Mahlum drew walks to plate Rykhus and Shepardson. Kreutner then reached on an error, which allowed Berreth to scamper home.

Devine’s two-run single pushed the margin to 15-5. Schoon added an RBI single and, after Zelinsky singled, Rykhus hit into a fielder’s choice to drive in Devine and provide for the final margin.

Berreth was 3-for-5 with three RBIs.

Devine finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Mahlum was 2-for-4.

Kreutner added two hits, including a double, and scored three times. Jackson Krogman had a two-run double in the second inning. Rykhus totaled a pair of RBIs.

Kreutner pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win, allowing two hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Wright threw three hitless innings before that, striking out two and walking two.

Devine, the starter, allowed five runs – four earned – on three hits and nine walks with four strikeouts in three-plus innings.

Post 24’s Tyler Hoffman was 2-for-3. Hunter Ringenberg drove in a pair of runs.

Tannor Merkel took the loss after giving up four runs on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks in 5 1/3 innings.

Brookings improved to 17-19.
